The Book of Bright Ideas by Sandra Kring offers a couple of great little nuggets of wisdom tucked into a sweet little story. Here are a couple of my favorites.
You ever see a stick caught in an eddy? ...Well, sometimes you'll see a
stick float down the rapids, and now and then when the water's movin' it around a boulder,
that stick gets caught in the swirl just below the rock. And it stays there,
just twirlin' and twirlin' in that same
stuck place.
So there that poor little stick is, caught up in a swirlin' eddy, spinnin' and spinnin' until it's sure
it's gonna be stuck in that one spot forever. But then a most amazing thing
happens. For no reason that anyone can really be sure of, the water spits that
little stick right out of that stuck place and off it goes, floatin; on down the river
to find new adventures.

It seems to me that after someone sweeps across your life like a red-hot
flame, peeling back the shutters that sat over your heart and your mind and
setting free your sweetest dreams or your worst nightmares, after things cool
down you've got two choices. You can either slip back into your old self, your
old life, tucking those things you were too scared to look at back into hiding,
or you can keep those parts of yourself out until you get so used to them that
they don't scare you anymore and they just become part of who you are.

I consider it a blessing when a book comes into my life and is able to say things to my soul I have been struggling to articulate.
Carry Me Home by Sandra Kring also offers several "simpleminded" nuggets of wisdom. This is my favorite.
...It don't hurt like a toothache in my guts all the time no more, making me so
sick I can't eat. Now it's more like when you got a bruise, how it don't hurt
all the time, just when you bump it.

One of my favorite bits of simpleminded wisdom comes from Forrest Gump. Remember when Jenny and Forrest are grown and walk back to her deserted childhood home? Jenny starts throwing rocks and then lays on the ground and cries. Forrest says, "I guess sometimes there just aren't enough rocks." I love that the simple truth of that scene.

I love all the quotes. Especially the Forrest Gump one. I love that movie. It has to be one of my favorites for the same reason you are talking about. The simple quotes that mean more than you think the first time you hear them.
I really like Sandra Kring. The narrators in her books are hopeful and innocence. Her story lines are quite complex and interesting. And of course she has some great one liners. Tidbits of wisdom. I enjoy reading her work.
Thanks Am. I needed that today. Love ya!
Those were so great! I also love the Forrest Gump line, but I really liked the bruise on too. Great pieces of wisdom.
Real gems, Amy...love them all!
bruise doesn't hurt unless you bump it was my fav. Thanks Amy! Did you know you've been tagged by Lindsay?
Those are awesome quotes. I agree about finding a book that speaks to you. They're hard to find!
