heaven on earth...frozen over

My grandparent's cabin in Hebgen Lake, Montana is my heaven on earth. Their log cabin is situated on a beautiful lake in the middle of a pine forest - it is magical and it is my favorite place in all the world. It is the place that takes my mind off troubles, it is the place where priorities effortlessly fall into place, and it is the place of countless memories and life lessons. It has been such a blessing in my life that my grandparents so generously share this amazing place with us and I feel so lucky that I am able to pass the magic of "Heaven Lake" down to my boys.

Unfortunately, last year there was a major drought and as a result no water by the time our week in August came around but we went anyway. This year we scheduled a June week because Lara is due to have her baby in July. Well this year according to my grandpa it is still "colder than hell" up there (grandpa winters in AZ and believes that hell is cold) so cold in fact that the pipes are still frozen and just this past weekend there was a blizzard. Are you serious? So I am very sad to report that we won't be heading up to Hebgen Lake for our annual trip next week. There is a strong possibility we will get a week in August or even September if there is still water and we can make it work on a week we don't already have something scheduled (Travis is getting married in August) but we will have to wait and see.

I am sad about our Hebgen Lake luck but not depressed like I was last year. Last year my hopes of a fabulous Hebgen Lake vacation served as a security blanket in the midst of my parent's divorce and when the vacation didn't turn out the way I hoped it became the proverbial last straw. I am okay this year. I can handle a Hebgen Lake setback this year.

Bummer! I am glad that you are ok though! I can't believe it is so cold still up there! Hopefully you will get to go SOON!

Hebgen is the best place on earth. And it is spelled with two e's. I love spending summers with the Eaglestons.

What a let down. Don't you hate it when you look forward to something so much and then it doesn't happen? You can always look forward to seeing us around 4th of July!! Ha ha(we are really coming)

I am bummed about Hebgen. But we are going to Island Park with Jeff's brothers and sisters in the beginning of August...so hopefully we can sneak up there and take a peek. Jeff needs to see Heaven on Earth!

I love Hebgen Lake! I have great memories of going there in the summers during college. I will have to send you some of the pictures I have of us being silly....if I can ever fix my darn scanner:) We will be in IF the second week in August so hopefully we can connect this time around!

If Hebgen Lake doesn't work out for August either, we would still love to come and go to Driggs with you guys. I think we'll be in town the weekend of August 15th...that way we'll be a little bit closer for when our baby is born. (Due the 20th.) I feel bad I haven't gotten back to you about it. But if you guys are still planning on it, we would still love to make it work :)

So sorry to hear about that! That stinks. I love the way you write. I feel like I am right there with you the way you write about your feelings, etc. I hope that you are able to go up sometime this summer though. Oh and your grandpa sounds like a trip..."Colder than hell", huh? Too funny!

Tell your Grandpa Hall to come out to Tennessee. It's hotter than...does he think Heaven is hot? Whatever is hot in his world, we've got it here. Bring on a blizzard. At least you can pile on the blankets and the clothes. I can only take off so many clothes here, and then where does that leave me? And I close with that special picture in your mind.
