George is really into Elmo right now. I think that most kids go through an Elmo stage but up until recently I was really dreading it. Elmo still isn't in my top ten favorite (or tolerable) Sesame Street characters but now that George is a fan I am warming up to Elmo because it is so fun to see how much George likes him (besides "Melmo" is one of the 30 words he says and I always get excited about new words). Tonight I had a babysitter here while I went to Costco (it was glorious to be there by myself) and when I got home George was sitting on the couch in his pj's with his milk, two beps, and his Elmo cake topper. I told him it was time for bed and he said, "Melmo?" I assumed he was asking if he could sleep with Elmo (I tried to phrase that a couple of different ways but couldn't come up with a way to say it that can't be misconstrued so get your mind out of the gutter) and since my new life motto is "What the hell" I figured my "no toys in your bed" rule didn't matter tonight and besides just because something is written in a parenting book doesn't mean it is true. It was so cute when I laid George in his crib because he laid Elmo on the pillow next to him and just turned his head and looked at him and smiled. Then he looked at me and said, "Bye!"

That is really cute. I can't believe how grown up George is starting to look.
So I think it is a little weird that all kids get really attached to Elmo at some point in their childhood. What is that about, how do the marketing people know how to make that happen?
I wasn't a huge elmo fan either but Easton sure likes him. Isn't that the truth about being written in a parenting book. I am glad you had a little alone time at Costco.
LOL -- Jonah has been into Elmo for several months now. We watch it daily.
As for your "no toy in bed" rule, I laugh, b/c Jonah has a ritual of all things that must be in his crib at bedtime (or naptime) -- here's the run down: puppy dog (main stuffie), Valentine (another stuffie - AS), blue dog (AS), Nanook (AS), Ribbit (AS), blankie, choo-choo blankie (a bigger Thomas blankie), one board book, and one cloth book.
BTW -- see our blog for a story about your new life motto :-)
George is so adorable, how could you ever say no to him wanting to have Melmo go to bed with him? BTW, what parenting book says no toys in bed? Madison loves to snuggle toys and look at books in bed and she falls asleep really quickly. We never went through the Elmo stage at our house, probably because she hardly ever watches Sesame Street.
Maybe Elmo is a boy thing? Val only liked him for a few weeks when she was 18 months.
We have a big stuffed animal bin in Valerie's closet & each night she gets to pick one to sleep with.
I'm the biggest parenting book rule breaker! I really should stop recommending them if I can't even stick to a schedule. (I like Amy's way much better)
Oh Amy, now look what you've started! I just read "Steph's" blog (sorry but I was curious)
That picture is so cute of George with his Melmo; and I love that he got to go to sleep with him too; and that once he was all comfy and settled in bed, he told you "Bye". I just picture him thinking OK mom, you can leave now, I don't need you because I have my Melmo to protect me. Too funny!
The "What the hell" motto must be family wide because that is how things are going at my house. All my kids went to bed last night after 9pm. We ate popcorn for lunch today and didn't even make our beds this morning.
Georgie is such a funny kid. He is a kid who knows what he wants. I am just glad that he can now tell us what he wants. I can't believe that you have a two year old. I can't believe that Scarlet is almost 2. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were talking about you having kids. Now you have two darling boys. That happened fast. Whens #3 making her appearance? j/k
I think they should have named him melmo instead of elmo. I think all kids call him that anyway. Pretty cute
I just read Alysha's comment. What is "amy's way?"
Amy, I am totally with you on the weight loss challenge! A challenge would for sure help to motivate me. How`should we do it? Report weight loss weekly? Bi-weekly? What do you think? (I also posted this comment on my blog just to make sure you saw it, so sorry if you read it twice!)
