The boys and I made cookies last week for the first time. It all came about during one of those desperate mom moments when your child is bored and naughty and you are exhausted and still have two hours to go before bedtime and then a small ray of light shines down and touches you right before you totally lose it and you think of something to do that just might work and then that something turns out being one of the best experiences you have had in a long time and you think maybe we should do this something every day. I mean look at the pure joy displayed on George's face.
I left lots of extra cookie dough on the whisk because that is what every kid wants and I started thinking...What is so great about cooked cookie dough anyway? Well except that you can dip cooked cookie dough in a glass of milk and there really are very few things better than that. I think that the coolest thing about being a mom is doing stuff your mom would never have done. Or maybe she did and you just don't remember because you were a kid and there could never be enough cookie dough.
Charlie had fun getting in on the action too. I really shouldn't have let him eat the cookie dough because there was butter and raw eggs in it but I figured I might as well press my luck. I mean this was the first time since before either of the boys were born that I had made cookies and I did consider it a small miracle that I remembered where I stored the mixer and just happened to have all the ingredients necessary to make the perfect peanut butter chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, well except baking powder but what does baking powder really do anyway?

There is nothing better than homemade cookies...my kids always get excited about baking cookies...They are old enough now to make their own and its kinda of nice to sit back and let them do it and reap the rewards of homemade cookies without doing a thing.
I can't believe you haven't made cookies in over two years. I love making cookies, but maybe that is because I love eating them. It looks like you all had lots of fun. You will have to do it more often in the future.
Hip Hip Hurray!!! I think that cooking with your kids is one of the most enjoyable learning and growing experiences as a mom. It is hard to say what I taste better the dough or the cookie??
For the record........you kids got to eat much more cookie dough than I ever did! I had to share a beater with Dar! If Sherm and Pam were there then one got the spatula, two each got a beater, and then the 4th kid hanging around could lick the bowl.
...then we would sneak into the kitchen later that day and finish off the cookies :) I'm sure Mom knew!
Mom always let me eat cookie dough. Maybe that means she likes me more than you other kids. I don't know, I'm just throwing that out there.
We just made cookies too! I didn't let Ruby help me, but she got to eat plenty of the dough!
Your pictures turned out great!
Oh, it looks like they both enjoyed it so much. Amelia loves to help me cook too. She helped me bake the red velvet cake for the Twilight party. She had red all over her fingers, but hey, these are the special times that we will all remember and they grow up so fast. Before we know it they won't want to help us cook. You are a great mom!
What a fun post. I love your honesty. It's nice to know we all have those moments where we don't know how we're going to handle the last 2 hours until bedtime!
I can't believe you never make cookies. I'm excited for when Bryn is old enough to help.
That looks like it was so much fun! And what's wrong with you, you haven't made cookies in over two years! That's crazy! George looked like he loved it and Charlie was probably so happy to get in on the cookie dough.
I always look forward to your clawbangs pictures. They make me laugh. Those boys are having so much fun making cookies. You are a fun mom!
