Paul hates wreaths because he thinks they look too "crafty" and they bang on the door when the wind blows (which is true). I like them because I think they make it look like someone is home and I don't know how to plant flowers. This is why he was so delighted to drop a note on my desk this morning (I was on the phone with a client) that read, "some birds are building a nest in your wreath on the door."We have had a lot of trouble with birds taking up residence on our front porch. A couple of years ago we had a bird nest in one of our lights and the bird actually laid eggs which eventually hatched and we had five baby birds and an aggressive, hormonal mama bird living in our light. As cool as that might sound let me assure you that it wasn't. They pooed all over the place, the mama became psycho, and they nearly destroyed the light.
So I guess for the time being our door will remain wreath-less.

That is so crazy! I also like wreaths, they are so friendly.
I think that every front door should should bear a beautiful "crafty" wreath...but definitely not if it becomes the home to a family of feathered creatures.
Crazy!
If you have a bird nest in your wreath that is the sign of a true crafter!
On the same note we were raking and picking up leaves in our backyard on Monday. Rob was racking and I was picking them up and putting them in bags. Anyway there was a pile of pine needles left over from the fall and Rob raked more on top of it. I was putting this pile in the bag and I saw something white and fuzzy. I kept filling and was about to pick it up, but since I didn't know what it was I kicked it a few times and it started moving. I of course screamed and ran because it looked like mice were coming out. To my relief they weren't mice, but tiny baby bunnies. There are tons of wild cotton tail bunnies here and they build their nests every where. A few years ago our neighbor boy ran over one with our lawn mower it was pretty gross as it was full of baby bunnies. Anyway it scared me to death, I can't imagine how freaky it would have been if I picked them up and they moved in my hands.
We have had to put up these "spikes" to prevent birdies from making their nest and pooping on our house. They'll try anywhere obviously!
I like wreaths. Paul is a nerd. And Tyra, that is gross that bunnies were murdered by your neighbor boy.
Apparently birds love wreaths the world over. My front door is generally bare except at Christmas time. We had old Tweety nesting in our wreath and it made me crazy. Although I try to share the world with all of God's creatures I don't include my property in that.
I'm just impressed that you have a wreath in the first place. You'll have to let your husband know that my husband would love it if I showed an inkling of decorating skills. Our poor house.
I showed this post to Zaner earlier today and he wants to know if he can have that nest for his collection.
I love wreaths on the front door as well... evidently so do birds. :)
Our front door is glass so we can't do the wreath thing. I think Noel is like Paul... He's pretty happy we can't.
You should find a spot inside your house where a wreath would look cute just to see what he says. :)
we had a birds nest in our wreath last year. It actually picked off some of the fake flowers...
but hey at least they're not pooping on you from the bathroom vent!!!
Don't worry we fixed that problem, you can now go to the restroom at my house without wondering if crap's going to fall on your head. :)
