The glamor of motherhood...

I started off the day cleaning up a huge blow-out (the kind that requires a bath and then a Clorox cleaning of the bathtub). I follow it up with a very unsuccessful day of potty training. We have only been at it two days, but George has yet to pee in the potty. This afternoon as I was helping George change his underwear for the sixth time I asked him, "Where do we put our pee pee's?" He started laughing and replied, "On mama's head." My evening went like this: Make dinner, clean it up off the floor, clean up another blow out (the kind the fills the entire booster seat with diarrhea, requires me to hose it down outside, and another bath for Charlie). While outside hosing diarrhea out of the booster seat George pees his underwear again, then steps in some of the diarrhea that got on the floor. I cleaned up the mess, George got clean underwear and sat on the potty again while Charlie pulled everything out of the garbage in the laundry room. I put a pull-up and pj's on George and 30 seconds later (one and a half minutes after I was able to distract him into sitting on the potty for a total of 12 minutes) he came downstairs to tell me that he peed in his pull-up (the only time today he proactively told me).

p.s. I have committed to giving the potty training thing 10 days and if he still hasn't peed in the potty at least once I'll be moving to plan B: find a preschool that will take a three year old who wears diapers.

Sounds like a fun filled day! All I can say is hang in there and good luck! It took Easton 2 days I think before he actually went in the potty. We were doing a lot of laundry. I don't like potty training but it sure beats buying diapers.

I have had my fair share of days like that. I feel for you. My mantra on days like that is: "Today is not for forever. This to shall pass. I can do anything for 24 hours."

P.S. You are a terrific mother. I love you. :)

Oh man if any mom says they haven't had a day like that they're lying. It's so frustrating! Props to you for committing to ten days. I can't tell you how many times we "gave it a go" before Val would "poop" in the potty.
Have you tried asking Zane to help for a day? We'd been trying for months with Val and out of the blue she accidentally watched one of her older cousins (age 6) and got interested and then Val asked her to help her use the potty. (without us there hovering) It really made a difference.

I can SOOOO relate to this day of yours. LOL It's actually actually been quite the week of cleaning up bodily function mishaps at my house too. Once with the poops and second with throw-up. YUMMY..

I really like Lara's mantra for days like this. Hang in there...

Wow, you make it sound so fun I can't wait to be a mom! :) You really are a great mom, hang in there he will get the hang of it soon. Maybe Scarlet should come hang out for a day so she can teach Georgie.

You poor thing. The only thing I can say is, rest assured that you are not alone on those ridiculously insane days. Don't you feel like you should be on some hidden camera show, because life couldn't possibly be that nutso?

Good luck on the potty-training. That alone could put me in an institution and I've only trained girls.

Potty training is so overrated. I am so sorry, I am guessing that by the time you get George trained, it will be time to start training Charlie. Then George will revert to his old ways and you will get to start the whole process over again. It stinks but its great that you documented your day so that someday you can look back and have a good laugh. Hang in there....bribery has worked well for me in times of desperation.

Man, that is a hard day! Like everyone has said though, we have all been there. I agree with Lara, my mother used to always say; "this too shall pass." Good luck with the potty training!

Oh, I feel your pain! We're in the midst of dedicating ourselves to this fun issue. Have you tried the whole "let him run around with no diaper at all" theory? I think it has helped!

I get to look forward to doing that times two, yipee! I got thrown up on for the first time on Saturday. It was lovely, all down my shirt, up and down my arms, everywhere. So glamorous, motherhood.

Wow, I'm sorry you had such a rough day Amy! I am totally waiting to potty train Bennett until I feel he is ready. Ella was 2 and easy as pie! I think boys must be harder! Good luck!

I'm trying to think of something funny to write to help you feel better, but I'm at a total loss because of the serious empathy I felt as I read your post. I'm so sorry, Amy! What a memorable day, to say the least!

That totally sucks! We've all been there, but that doesn't make it any better. There's always tomorrow...

Amy, it was fun for me to read this just after reading the post about you and Paul on the red carpet! What a contrast. I'm sure you wouldn't trade your poo ventures for stardom (as fun at it was for a weekend)!

Good luck!
