Growing Up

This post is about me. Lately I have felt more grown up.

Evidence:

  • Several mom moments when I knew just what to do, did it, and it worked.
  • Several mom moments when I wasn't sure what to do and was totally okay with it.
  • Little to no travel anxiety thanks to my trusty GPS and a growing comfort level.
  • Last night I encountered a mouse in the basement pantry and I didn't scream or run. It is true that the mouse was in a trap and dead and that I was making George take a load of stuff down there for me because I was well aware of the likelihood of seeing a mouse (which I now realize is the exact same thing my mom used to do to us and I don't blame her a bit) but then had to help him because he couldn't get the door open which is when the mouse encounter occurred. Still I am counting it as progress. I calmly left the room, went upstairs, and told Paul. Then all the boys ran downstairs to examine and dispose of the mouse which took so long that all of the water steamed out of the pot on the stove and burnt the pan and I didn't notice even though I was in the kitchen. George was sad that I didn't want to see the dead mouse but provided me with what he believed was a fairly accurate imitation of what it looked like.

I can't believe that you didn't take a picture of George imitating a dead mouse?!! I would have loved seeing it since I have seen many dead mice.
Sorry that I forced you to the basement because of my fear of mice. I too outgrew it when I was about your age. You are very brave around snakes....

I really want to see George's imitation of the dead mouse. Maybe you could get him to do it again and post it? Please Please Please...

I don't think I will ever grow up if it takes being calm when you see a mouse. Congratulations on "Growing Up" You are awesome!

Congrats on growing up! Mice are gross no matter how grown up you are. Good job dealing with it.

That is HUGE, Amy. I haven't quite hit that milestone in life yet. In fact, just the other day I found a lizard in my house and tried to get it outside. I confused the lizard so much that it ran right into my foot. I let out the craziest scream imaginable. I worried that I might have traumatized my nine month old, but instead she laughed because I jumped up and down with my scream. I think she thought I was playing around with her. I am EXTREMELY impressed that you didn't react. I probably would have tossed my cookies.
