charlie-ism

Charlie picks his nose and eats his boogers on a fairly regular basis. It is really gross and we can't make him stop. Bribing (our go-to parenting tactic) doesn't work, neither does describing how gross, unhealthy, and socially unacceptable the act is. We bought him his own pack of boogie wipes which helped, but only for a couple of days. Paul thinks we should spray something up his nose to make his boogers taste bad.

Today when I dropped Charlie off at daycare one of his friends totally busted him...

Kid to me: How does Charlie get his boogers to be healthy?
Me: His boogers aren't healthy. They are full of germs.
Kid: Charlie said that his boogers are healthy like food.
Me: (looking down at Charlie and his sly little smile) Nope. Boogers are disgusting.
Kid: Charlie, you shouldn't pick your nose or eat your boogers.
Charlie: My boogers don't have germs.

That's right. Charlie has been telling the kids at school that his boogers are healthy and a great source of nutrition and that it is therefore not wrong for him to consume them on a regular basis.

And just so your last thoughts of Charlie aren't those of complete repulsion, I'll leave you with a picture of the cute little guy.

p.s. Any ideas on how to keep him from picking and consuming his boogers?
p.p.s. Aren't his eyelashes amazing?

That is awesome. You are going to have your hands full when you try to convince him that alcohol is yucky and not fun ;)

Wish I could help! I have one of those kids too! Actually, I am pretty sure that every one of my kids has a socially unacceptable habit......they probably won't stop doing it until they get teased at school. At least we try to help. And, his eyelashes ARE amazing!

Spraying something up his nose to make them taste disgusting? I have never thought of that, but it makes me laugh. What are you going to use? Too funny! I have no idea how to make him stop. Good thing he's so cute. Really it's not fair that boys end up with those lashes.

I am at a loss. I don't know how to stop nose picking. But it's funny that he came up with an explanation as to why it isn't bad for him to eat his boogers, clever kid!

I had the same problem with my 7 year old a few years ago. When I told her boogies are gross she said, "No they're yummy." Luckily, at some point they care about what other people think and she uses tissues now. :) Your hubby could make some serious money off an anti nose picking spray. Maybe you could just use the same stuff for fingernail biters.

Oh! He is so cute Amy... boogers and all!!!

Hmm... how to make him stop though?? I don't know.. tell him eating your boogers is like eating your poop! Ask him if he'd eat his poop??? and when he says No (hopefully) then you can say see... don't eat your boogers then cuz that's pretty much like eatin' your poop!

Hope that helps! LOL

No help here on the boogie situation but I love that pic of him with Mo Mo. It melts my heart. He is so sweet with her.
