baby zuri

Yesterday we traveled to Hogle Zoo to see baby elephant Zuri. She is super cute, however, at the exact moment that we walked up the mama elephant took a huge dump and then baby Zuri walked over and started eating her poop. Then George and Charlie started yelling, "Mom, why is that baby eating its' mama's poop?" There was a zookeeper on hand who answered that question (healthy bacteria) along with a whole host of other questions that George had for her. My favorite was, "How many baby elephants tall is the mama elephant?" Three in case you are wondering.

This is baby Zuri eating "health bacteria." We also saw baby Zuri nurse which was cool and prompted even more questions from the boys.

George didn't want me to take his picture which is why his eyes are closed. We always sit in the back row of the train because George thinks the train whistle isn't as loud back there (he has never noticed that there are speakers mounted throughout the train).

Charlie on the other hand was all about the pictures. He wanted me to take his picture next to every animal that we saw.

We also rode the carousel. Charlie picked the grasshopper and George chose to sit on the stationary peacock.

Hogle Zoo

I have been dissing on the Hogle Zoo for years and even though I have only been there four times in my entire life I have expressed very strong opinions about the lack of natural habitat, abundance of concrete, long lines, and dirty bathrooms. However last night was a completely different experience. I am not sure if the zoo has changed or if I have changed or if the fact that it was a crisp night (perfect for pushing a double stroller up hills) and that the zoo was nearly deserted is what made the difference. George liked the big, big elephant the best and Charlie's favorite was the giraffe house. It was dinner time and the baby giraffe (born November 28th) was really hungry and fun to watch.

Choo Choo

Tonight we went to Hogle Zoo with the Herway's. George loved the train ride (he said "choo choo" over and over and over) and thought he was pretty cool sitting in his own seat (he didn't even want to hold my hand, except when we went through the tunnel). Charlie had a major blowout and spent the last half of the trip in only a diaper because I didn't pack any extra clothes.
