Juice

George has been working with a speech therapist because he is a "late talker" and we have been really concentrating on helping him understand that he has to use words to communicate. For those of you who know George, you know that the kid talks non-stop he just doesn't speak much English. So we have been concentrating on five (English) words a week and he has made amazing progress. He now gets that he has to use words or signs to communicate and if he doesn't know a word or a sign for what he wants he will take my hand and show me. All of this is new over the past two weeks. Juice is one of the words that George knows except that he totally generalizes it to mean nearly anything that is liquid. For example, he calls milk, juice, water, and anything else he drinks "juice" and when we went to Silver Lake over Memorial Day he called the water in the lake "juice" and when we went to the Aquarium this weekend he called the water in the tanks "juice." Well this afternoon I went in to see if I could get him to stop partying in his crib and take a nap and he patted his diaper and said "juice." He had peed and wanted to be changed before he went to sleep. It was really funny and I couldn't help but burst out laughing.

Too funny! That is awesome that he is doing so well. What a relief for you to have him communicating better! How is your class going?

That is so funny! But I'm glad that he is doing so well learning new words. I bet it won't take him long to disinguish between different liquids.

I'm so happy George is picking up the lingo. "juice" totally needs to become your code name for pee pee, it made me laugh too.

Yeah it was really funny Lara...I'm just glad I didn't have to clean it up. I don't handle those kinds of things.
